We are a small acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine practice in Lane Cove. This page is about what that involves, what it costs you in time, and where it is not the right choice.
What a course of treatment actually looks like. A first appointment is mostly talking and examining; needling is part of it but not most of it. If we think acupuncture may help with what you describe, we will suggest a small number of sessions and a point at which we both look at whether anything has changed. Some people notice a difference and some do not. If nothing has changed by then, that is the answer, and continuing is not the next step.
Chinese herbal medicine is supplied with a consultation, not off a shelf. Herbs interact with prescribed medicines. We need your current list, including supplements, and a reorder needs a review rather than a message. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive, in assisted reproduction, breastfeeding, or about to have a procedure, say so before anything is dispensed.
What we do not do. We do not diagnose medical conditions, we do not ask anyone to delay or change prescribed treatment, and we do not promise outcomes. Where what you describe belongs with a GP, a specialist or an allied health practitioner, we say so and we say it early.
The evidence, without the sales pitch. It is mixed, and it is better for some complaints than for others. The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health publishes a plain-English summary that does not oversell it. We would rather you read that and come in with questions.
Registration. Acupuncturists and Chinese herbal medicine practitioners in Australia are registered with the Chinese Medicine Board under AHPRA, and you can look up any practitioner's registration yourself. Ask us for the number if we have not given it to you.
We practise in Lane Cove. Rainbow Acupuncture works out of Lane Cove and Freshwater, so if the Northern Beaches is closer, that is the one to call.
