冥想
You sit — in a chair, usually — and someone talks you through where to put your attention. That is most of it. Sessions here run around thirty minutes because that is what people actually come back for. Nobody is asked to sit cross-legged on a floor, and nobody has to say anything out loud.
There is a reason we mention this. People who learn a practice near home keep it up far more often than people who learn it on a retreat and then try to recreate the conditions. Walking ten minutes from Longueville Road, doing half an hour, and walking home is a routine that survives a busy fortnight. A weekend intensive two hours away usually isn't.
You do not need us to start. Sit down, set a timer for five minutes, and follow your breathing out. Your attention will leave. Bring it back. That is the whole instruction, and the rest is repetition.
Pick a fixed time rather than a fixed length. Most people who stop, stop because they were waiting to feel like it.
This is not treatment and it is not a substitute for anything you have been prescribed. The research supports structured programs for stress-related distress and for parts of living with long-term pain; it does not support the longer list you will see elsewhere.
If you are awake at night because of pain, breathing that stops, or a medication that changed recently, that is a medical question first. Bring it to your GP, or bring it here and we will tell you if it belongs with them.
If you would rather try it with someone in the room before doing it alone, ask when you book an appointment and we will tell you what is running.
