You can enjoy music, rest and ritual in a sound session without believing every claim attached to it. Here is how to keep expectations realistic.
Sound sessions usually weave together music, quiet rest and a sense of occasion. For someone juggling work, family and a long commute, that combination can feel like a welcome breather. Some promotional material goes much further, though, borrowing ideas such as water crystals responding to sound or sweeping theories about vibration repairing the body. These are not established medical explanations.
Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, offers sound sessions purely as a relaxation and wellbeing experience.

It is entirely possible to appreciate a session while remaining sceptical of the claims around it. Ask Christine what happens during the session, what it can realistically offer, and how she will make sure you stay comfortable throughout.
The question worth asking is whether the experience suits you, not whether an impressive story makes it sound scientifically certain. If you are living with a health condition, keep your usual medical care going and see the session as a restful extra.
Plenty can be tailored to you: the loudness, how close the instruments are, whether you sit or recline, and whether you take breaks. You are not expected to feel a certain emotion or to keep perfectly still. Tell Christine what feels manageable, and keep in mind the difference between an enjoyable period of relaxation and a claim to fix a medical problem.
Earplugs or a quieter instrument can be options for anyone with sensitive hearing.
First-timers often prefer a shorter, softer session, and that can usually be arranged on request.
If you like the idea of an hour of sound and stillness without the hype, ask about availability at the Lane Cove clinic. Christine can describe a typical session in advance so you know exactly what you are signing up for.
