Classical acupuncture writing describes several ways of organising treatment. Those ideas do not mean everyone with one symptom gets the same points.
Classical acupuncture literature describes several approaches to organising treatment, often translated as regulating, unblocking and guiding. These terms reflect a long tradition of clinical reasoning, developed and debated over centuries. They do not mean that two people with the same symptom should receive identical points or the same strength of stimulation.
Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, draws on this tradition while tailoring each plan to the individual in front of her.

You are entitled to an explanation that makes sense to you. Ask Christine to describe the proposed plan in terms that connect with your own experience. Which concern is being addressed? How will your response be assessed over the coming visits?
Learning ancient vocabulary is not a requirement for having a say. What matters is that you understand enough to discuss comfort, goals and whether continuing still feels worthwhile.
At the start, separate the symptom troubling you from the result you would value. Fewer stiff mornings, a clearer picture of what is going on, or a sense of when a medical review is needed could all be sensible aims. Ask how often the plan will be checked and what would make Christine change it.
Classical frameworks offer a vocabulary for thinking about the body. They sit alongside, not in place of, medical diagnosis and care from your GP or specialists. Keeping both perspectives in view helps make the plan safe and understandable.
If new or worsening symptoms appear, raise them promptly so your plan can be reconsidered.
If you enjoy understanding the reasoning behind treatment, ask questions freely. Christine can explain how classical ideas inform her approach at the Lane Cove clinic, always linking them back to the goals you have set together.
