Thinking About a Sound Session? Look Past the Wellness Buzz

7:55 pm 24 October 2026 0 Comments

Trends can make sound sessions feel essential. A clear sense of what you want from the hour keeps expectations sensible and the experience enjoyable.

Interest is not the same as an outcome

Sound baths, gong evenings and bowl sessions seem to be everywhere on social feeds, and that visibility can make a practice you have never tried seem almost compulsory. Popularity tells us a lot about curiosity. It tells us very little about whether an hour of sound will settle a health problem.

At the Lane Cove clinic, sound sessions with Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, are offered for relaxation and wellbeing. Knowing that from the outset makes it easier to decide whether a session matches what you are looking for.

Work out what you are hoping for

Before you book, it can help to name your main reason:

  • A restful hour away from screens and noise.
  • Psychological support for stress, low mood or a difficult period.
  • Help making sense of a symptom that has been hanging around.

Each of these leads to a different conversation. A sound session suits the first; the second may point towards psychotherapy, which Christine also offers; the third often begins with your GP.

Ask what the hour includes

Find out which instruments are used, how long the session runs, whether you sit or lie down and how much talking is involved. Judge the value by that description, not by a striking advertisement, an unusual price or the novelty of the instruments.

Comfort is adjustable

Volume, your distance from the instruments, seating and the chance to pause can all be changed. You are not expected to feel a particular emotion or to lie perfectly still. Tell Christine what feels manageable as the session goes along.

A grounded way to try it

If you are simply curious, that is a perfectly good reason to book. Mention at your Lane Cove appointment what drew you to sound and anything that might make you uncomfortable, such as sensitivity to loud noise, so the first session can be pitched gently and enjoyed for what it is.
