Which Kind of Healing? Setting Expectations for Creative Sessions

8:26 pm 24 October 2026 0 Comentarios

The word healing covers many different experiences. Clarifying which one you mean helps set realistic expectations for a sound or creative session.

One word, many meanings

People use the word healing to describe very different things: feeling comforted after a hard week, reconnecting with others through music, or recovering from an illness. These meanings overlap in conversation but they are not interchangeable. A community choir, a painting class or an arts festival can bring real value to people's lives without that making every sound activity a clinical treatment.

In Lane Cove, Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, runs sound sessions purely for relaxation and wellbeing. For those seeking psychological treatment, she also holds qualifications in psychotherapy.

Naming what you are looking for

When you contact Christine, it helps to say which of these is closest to what you want:

  • A creative or reflective pause from everyday pressures.
  • A relaxing hour of sound in a calm room.
  • Psychological treatment for an ongoing difficulty such as grief, stress or anxiety.

Clarifying the purpose from the start makes it easier to set realistic expectations and choose the right kind of appointment.

Judging a session by what it is

Look at what a session actually involves and sets out to do, not at how attractive the word healing sounds on a flyer. Ask what will happen, how long it lasts and what it is designed to offer. If you have a health concern, your GP remains the place to start for medical assessment.

Comfort during sound sessions

You can ask for lower volume, more distance from the instruments, a different seat or a pause at any time. Feeling nothing special is fine, and so is shifting position whenever you like.

Making room for creativity

Lane Cove has a lively arts scene, and many locals already enjoy music and creative groups. If those activities lift your spirits, keep them going. A sound session in Lane Cove can be one more way to rest, and Christine can talk through how it fits alongside the other things that bring you comfort.
