Claims about healing frequencies are beliefs within certain practices, not proof. You can still enjoy sound for rest and reflection without signing up to a theory.
Browse a few sound-healing websites and you will find charts matching particular frequencies to chakras, organs or emotions. These associations belong to specific traditions and belief systems. They are not evidence that a tone can repair tissue, settle an organ or resolve a mental health condition, and they should not be presented as if they were.
At the Lane Cove clinic, Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, offers sound sessions purely as a relaxation and wellbeing experience, so you can enjoy the sound without needing to accept any energy theory first.
There are plenty of good reasons to book a session: a wish for a quiet, reflective hour, a liking for resonant instruments, or curiosity about how deep listening feels. Tell Christine what appeals to you and what you would rather avoid, and ask what she intends the session to include.
Volume, how close you sit to the instruments, your position and the chance to stop can all be changed during the session. There is no correct emotional reaction, and you do not need to stay motionless if you become uncomfortable. Simply let Christine know.
Relaxing through sound is a pleasant experience in its own right. It is not a substitute for medical or psychological care, so if you have health concerns, please discuss them with your GP or ask about other options available at the clinic.
If you have been put off sound sessions because the explanations sounded far-fetched, you are welcome to come along on your own terms. A session in Lane Cove can simply be about listening, resting and noticing how you feel, with no particular belief required at the door.
